Navigating changing derivatives markets
The past year has brought significant change across global markets. Geopolitical developments and changing policy environments have contributed to sharp market moves, creating new considerations for corporate and institutional clients.
Clients across asset classes have continued to look for ways to manage liquidity and risk more efficiently, make better use of capital and increase yields.
Against this backdrop, BNP Paribas has worked with clients across derivatives markets to respond to changing requirements. Its derivatives market solutions range from bespoke structures designed around specific situations to an impressive presence across more standardized flow products.
The focus is on adapting to different client needs as conditions change. This includes helping clients manage exposures during periods of heightened uncertainty and supporting longer-term hedging requirements.
Research for changing markets
BNP Paribas’ Strategy and Economics teams have helped clients respond to changing policy and market conditions through trade ideas supported by data-led market intelligence.
Markets 360 helped clients navigate the turbulence in markets by expanding clients’ toolkit of geopolitical insight through a series of expert calls. Each call was prepared and hosted by a dedicated Markets 360 analyst, ensuring that the discussions were tightly aligned with client needs. The roster of external speakers reflected their deep sector expertise.
In the US, the Bank’s Markets 360 Strategy and Economics team anticipated the macroeconomic implications of the evolving policy environment. The team identified opportunities across rates and foreign exchange, including non-consensus positions which successfully generated returns for clients.
Alongside trade ideas, BNP Paribas has continued to develop new ways for clients to access market intelligence. The US Equity Positioning Indicator, delivered through an API, estimates the impact of market positioning on future returns. The tool attracted more than 500 institutional users in 2025, giving clients a data-led way to assess their equity exposure as market conditions change.
This work contributed to BNP Paribas being named Research and Strategy House of the Year in both Europe and Asia and the Americas, recognizing the role of research and market intelligence in helping clients respond to changing conditions – which the Bank has continued with its 2026 Q4 Global Outlook.
This news follows the Bank’s prior success this year in the Euromoney Awards for Excellence, in which it was named North America’s Best Bank for Research.
Thought Leader in ESG
The Bank’s efforts in Sustainability have also been recognized in the GlobalCapital Derivatives Awards 2026, being named Thought Leader in ESG in both Europe and Asia, and the Americas.
For the last ten years, BNP Paribas has continuously advanced innovation and expertise within sustainable finance to assist clients through their transition. Since 2022, the Group has mobilized EUR 252 billion to facilitate the support clients in their transition toward a low-carbon economy.
The bank has continued to show leadership and client focus in ESG markets this year, pioneering Outcome Bonds which mobilize private capital for high-impact environmental projects; leading a highly successful issuance for the World Bank this year.
The Bank’s research teams have continued their focus on ESG themes, exploring the implications of emerging technologies for energy markets. Work published in 2025 examined the energy consumption of AI data centers and considered how the AI investment cycle could affect global power grids.
